A staple gun is also known as tacker. It is used to insert staples into metal, wood and plastic. The staple guns are used in home, office and other DIY jobs. It is ideally used in tasks like roofing and wiring. Wire cable stapler/staple gun are used in jobs like telphone, intercom and alarm fixing. It is made from plastic or metal and also comes in both the combination of metal and plastic.

A staple gun can be divided into two categories

  • Hand powered staple gun in which hand power is used to push the staples into your working material. In hand power staple gun a handle is attached to the top and when this handle is pressed/pushed staples are fired into your working material.

  • Electric or battery powered staple gun in which a push button is attached to it and is used for firing staples into your working materials. Electric powered staple gun have a quick rate of firing staples than the hand power staple gun. Some of the electric powered staplers can be operated by one hand. These days mutli purpose guns are also available in the market which can be used both as a staple gun or nail gun.

    There is another type of staple gun which is known as forward action staple gun. In this type you are prevented from the stapler kick back activity which is generally faced during working.

    The number of left staples can be seen through the window of the staple gun. The number and size of staples a staple gun can handle depends upon its capacity and varies for each type of staple gun.

    The ideal feature of a staple gun are as follows -

  • The handle should be anti slip so that it is easier to hold the staple gun
  • It should have a safety mechanism to prevent accidental firing of staples
  • An anti jam feature in a staple gun is a added advantage
  • It should be easier to load staples into the staple gun
  • Adjustable power control in electric powered staplers
